Acupuncture works by its effect on local nerves to decrease pain by inducing the body to release endorphins, a natural pain relieving substance, and stimulating healing locally by increasing blood flow and reducing deep scar tissue in the affected structures.
In Ontario, the practice of acupuncture has been regulated since 2006. Regulated Health Professionals, including Chiropractors, who have fulfilled educational requirements outline by their regulatory colleges can perform needle insertion acupuncture. At the Arnprior Chiropractic Health Centre, Dr. Sly, Dr. Knapp, and Dr. Sullivan are qualified in acupuncture and implement a neurofunctional dry-needling acupuncture approach to effectively modulate abnormal activity of the nervous system. Dr. Sly undertook his initial acupuncture training in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and continues to take Contemporary Medical Acupuncture courses through McMaster University. Dr.Sly has been a member of the Acupuncture Council of Ontario since 1996. Dr. Knapp and Dr. Sullivan completed the comprehensive McMaster University Contemporary Medical Acupuncture Program.
